New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed all the details regarding the World Test Championship (WTC) final 2025. This will be the third WTC cycle (2023-25) that will reach its conclusion in 2025 as nine teams vie for the top two spots in the WTC standings. The third edition has been in progress since 2023, the year when Australia were crowned the new World Test Champions.
As per the current standings, India sit on top with six wins out of nine games, having lost two and drawn one out, the percentage points (PCT) being 68.52. The defending champions Australia are second with eight wins out of 12 Tests, having lost three and drawn one, with the percentage points (PCT) at 62.50. It is understood that the sides that finish top two over a two-year cycle of Test cricket contest in the final.
World Test Championship 2025 final dates and venue
The ICC on Tuesday in a media release announced that he final of the World Test Championship will be held between June 11 and June 15 at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London announced. This will be a straight third edition of the WTC final that will be held in England. The first one was held in 2021 in Southampton when New Zealand beat India and the second final was held at the Kennington Oval in London in 2023 when Australia beat India.
“The one-off Test will be played at the iconic London venue from 11 to 15 June 2025, with 16 June available as a reserve day if required,” the ICC stated.
The WTC 2023–25 cycle began with the 1st Ashes Test that began on June 16, 2023. The table-toppers India have a packed red-ball schedule lying ahead as they are set to play a total of 10 Tests against Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Australia combinedly.
This will be the first time that the iconic Lord’s will host the big match. “Test match days at Lord’s are special and to welcome the two best men’s sides in the world at the time, to battle it out at the Home of Cricket, will be a cricketing experience not to be missed,” said Guy Lavender, the Chief Executive and Secretary of the Marleybone Cricket Club (MCC).
