New Delhi: The UEFA Nations League 2024/25 is officially underway and the two winners of the tournament are in action simultaneously. The inaugural winners of the tournament, Portugal welcome Croatia in Lisbon whereas the defending champions Spain travel to Belgrade, where they take on Serbia to kickstart their defence of the first trophy they won under current manager Luis de la Fuente.
Three of the four teams in action tonight are coming off the back of a woeful UEFA Euro 2024 campaign as both Croatia and Serbia failed to make it out of their group while Portugal unimpressively reached the quarter-final stage where they lost to France. The fourth team in action tonight, Spain, head into the tournament after a dream UEFA Euro 2024 as they won the whole thing with a 100% win record.
Portugal’s game against Croatia tonight seems to be an exciting one but the Croats will be without Marcelo Brozovic and Domagoj Vida and Portugal will be without veteran defender Pepe, all of whom announced their retirement from International football following the UEFA Euro. Similarly, Spain and Serbia will also contest their game without two of their best players as both, Spain’s Jesus Navas and Serbia’s captain, Dusan Tadic, also retired after UEFA Euro 2024.
