USA para-athlete celebrates Paralympic gold with Olympic gold-medallist wife – WATCH

New Delhi: American para sprinter Hunter Woodhall and wife Tara Davis-Woodhall were once again in the spotlight in Paris. On Friday, Hunter clinched gold medal in the T62 400 metres at the Stade de France with a timing of 46.36s to beat Germany’s world record holder Johannes Floors by a mere margin of two metres.

Immediately after the completion of his race, the 25-year-old Hunter ran towards Tara, who was present at the trackside at the Stade de France. The pair was seen embracing each other with delight, recreating the moment of the Paris Olympics, where Tara won the gold medal in women’s long jump event. Tara ran towards her husband in the stands to celebrate that glorious moment on August 8 at the very same venue.
“My first gold in a major championship and I couldn’t pick a better one,” Woodhall told reporters, with his beaming wife standing by his side, both wearing their respective gold medals.
“Tara has taught me a lot,” he said. “Before the Olympics she was writing in her journal ‘I will be the Olympic champ, I am strong, I am fast’. I brought my journal with me and the past few days I’ve been writing in there ‘I will be Paralympic champion’ and that’s come true!”

Hunter Woodhall and Tara-Davis Woodhall are known to be high school sweethearts. According to the Paralympic.org, the pair met for the first time at the Simplot Games Indoor Athletics Meet in Idaho in 2017. It was Tara who approached Hunter after he completed his 400m sprint at this meet.

Since then the duo has been inseparable despite seeing some of the highs and lows together. The Woodhalls have been in a long-distance relationship when they were competing for different universities.

“We bring a lot of diversity into our relationship, and we want to be really transparent about that. Tara is a woman of colour. I have a disability. We want people to know that whoever you are, whatever situation you’re in, it’s okay and that’s what makes you special and unique,” Hunter said in an interview in 2021.

The pair tied the knot in 2022 and their story became famous when they were noticed in the Paris Olympics 2024 while celebrating Tara’s gold medal.
