New Delhi: Sameer Rizvi, the skipper of Kanpur Superstars, rose to the occasion in the second qualifier of the UP T20 League, taking his team into the final with an incredible six in the Super Over against Lucknow Falcons on Thursday. The game notably lasted for just eight balls and the winner was decided after just 15 runs in total and two wickets.
Taking on veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the Super Over, Rizvi showed nerves of steel and brought forth an impressive shot to send it over the boundary ropes, reminding everyone of an MS Dhoni-style finish. The match had to be decided in a single over as the game was badly hit by the rain, which kept pushing it further, delaying the start and ultimately making it a one-over affair that was also a Super Over.
The Falcons batted first and could just manage to score seven runs in five balls, at the cost of two wickets, The Superstars were swift in their response as skipper Rizvi hit a stunning six off the third ball to seal the win for his team, successfully chasing the eight run target without losing a wicket. Despite being a rain-curtailed game, it had the audience on the edge of their seats, bringing out one of the most thrilling finishes of the tournament.

Sameer Rizvi’s breakthrough in cricket
Rizvi debuted in the Ranji Trophy for Uttar Pradesh at a mere age of 16. He is known for being an explosive batter and is often compared with Suresh Raina. He boasts the talent to play aggressively and dominate the spinners. He was recognised by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2024 auction which bought him for a whopping Rs. 8.40 crore in the auction of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
He has had the opportunity to play alongside the greatest of all time MS Dhoni in the IPL for CSK and the shot that he hit to seal the game surely tells that he has learned a thing or two from the legendary cricketer. Nonetheless, the Superstars will now take on Rinku Singh’s Meerut Mavericks in the epic final that will take place on September 14 at 7:30 pm.
Wet conditions caused significant delay in the UP T20 League Qualifier 2 between Kanpur Superstars and Lucknow Falcons due to which the game was shortened to a Super Over to decide the result. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
