Hamza bin Laden: Meet Osama bin Laden’s son and Al Qaeda’s Crown Prince of Terror

New Delhi: According to The Mirror which has cited intelligence reports, Hamza bin Laden, the son of former Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, is alive and leading the terror outfit in Afghanistan along with his brother, Abdullah bin Laden. The operations of Hamza and his aides have been mentioned in the report of the National Mobilisation Front (NMF) which is an anti-Taliban military alliance. According to the outlet, Hamza, who is known as the ‘crown prince of terror’ is hiding in northern Afghanistan and is protected by 450 snipers. The news has come as a shock to many who thought that Hamza was dead.

The full name of Hamza bin Laden, the son of former Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden is Hamza bin Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden. He was born in 1989 in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah and married Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah’s daughter at 17.

According to a 2005 video, Hamza took part in an Al Qaeda attack on Pakistani security forces in the south Waziristan tribal region between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He again went back to the tribal belt in September 2007 as per reports. In July 2008, a translation of Hamza’s poem became available and it called for the destruction of the US, the UK, France and Denmark, to which British MP Patrick Mercer called him ‘the Crown Prince of Terror’. He was implicated in the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, former Prime Minister of Pakistan. However, it was later revealed that he was under house arrest in Iran at the time of the assassination.

Hamza released his first audio message on August 14, 2015, where he urged his followers in Kabul and Gaza to wage Jihad on London, Washington, Paris and Tel Aviv. As per reports, e again released an auditor message on May 11, 2016, on the issues of Palestine and the Syrian Civil War. In July 2016, he reportedly issued an audio message in which he threatened the US to take revenge for the death of his father.

In 2017, the US classified Hamza as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist. On February 28, 2019, the US Department of State offered a $1 million reward for information on the location of Hamza. On March 1, 2019, Saudi Arabia announced revoking his citizenship. Notably, Hamza was not present in Abbottabad when his father was killed in a US raid.
