If you’re an EPF account holder, you can now check your balance right from your mobile phone with just a few taps. EPF, or Employees’ Provident Fund, is a simple and efficient way to save for retirement since the contributions are automatically deducted from your salary. Let’s dive into how you can effortlessly check your EPF balance.
How Does EPF Work?
Typically, an employee contributes 12% of their basic salary to the EPF. The employer matches this with an equal 12% of the employee’s basic salary plus any dearness allowance. However, the employer’s contribution is split into two parts: one goes into the EPF, and the other into the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS). This combined effort helps build a substantial fund for the employee’s retirement.
Check Your EPF Balance Online
Using the EPFO Member Passbook Portal:
Visit the official EPFO Member Passbook Portal.
Log in with your Universal Account Number (UAN) and password.
Select the EPF account you wish to view.
Select ‘View PF Passbook’ to check your balance & transactions.
Using the UMANG App:
The UMANG app was launched by the Indian government and it gives access to several government services.
The first step involves downloading and installing the UMANG app.
Launch the app and go through the EPFO menu.
Enter your UAN and password to log in.
It is now possible to check the EPF balance and other information.
Offline Way to Verify EPF Balance
Via SMS:
If your UAN is linked to your registered mobile number, send an SMS to 7738299899. You can even choose your preferred language. Within moments, you’ll receive a text with your EPF balance.
Via Missed Call:
With your UAN linked to a registered mobile number, give a missed call to 011-22901406. The call will be cut automatically, and shortly, you’ll get an SMS with your EPF balance details.
