Australia to clean sweep India in 5-match Border-Gavaskar series, claims Nathan Lyon

New Delhi: Australia will beat India 5-0 in the much anticipated Border-Gavaskar series that begins in November, claimed the team’s star spinner Nathan Lyon.

Australia will host India with the series opening in Perth on November 22 having lost the last four series to India – two at home and two away.

They are desperate to win it at their own backyard this time around and Lyon said they will do everything possible to wrestle the trophy back.

The off-spinner revealed that the BGT series has been on the back of his mind since England toured in India in the early part of the year.

“It’s been 10 years since we have won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. I started thinking about this series when England were over in India, watching them to go about it,” Lyon said while speaking to Alyssa Healy on the ‘Willow Talk’ podcast.

“I love the game and I will watch a decent Test match but I have eyes on this series for a long time now. My prediction is 5-0 to Australia.”

The last time Australia achieved a clean sweep in the series was in 2011. Lyon feels if they have to repeat that feat, then their batters have to put up big scores against the formidable Indian bowling attack consistently.

“We need big runs. We need the guys, who are talented enough to get the hundred. The likes of Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Travis Head, all the top order. I don’t want 101 or 107, I want 180 and 200,” Lyon said in the same interaction.

Since Lyon is the leading wicket taker in the BGT series with 121 wickets in 27 matches at an average of 31.56, he would also play a crucial role in deciding its fate.
