New Delhi: Pakistan batter Saim Ayub tried to replicate Suryakumar Yadav’s exceptional catch from the T20 World Cup 2024 final during the Champions One Day Cup but failed miserably. Saim came up with a failed Suryakumar-like effort on the boundary line during the match between the Panthers and Dolphins in Faisalabad.
The incident occurred during the 18th over of the Dolphins’ run chase after the Panthers posted 328 runs on the board, batting first in the game. On the first ball of the 18th over from spinner Usama Mir, Dolphins batter Muhammad Akhlaq went for a big heave. The ball travelled towards the long-off boundary where Ayub was stationed.
Ayub decided to pull off a juggling catch and the ball appeared to be within his control initially. While he did manage to catch it, he failed to maintain his balance and stepped over the rope as he failed to complete the juggling effort. Fans brutally trolled him over his failed effort, calling it another fielding gem from Pakistan.

Suryakumar had successfully pulled off a similar relay catch in the dying moments of the T20 World Cup 2024 final between India and South Africa earlier this year. The star batter’s excellent catch of David Miller proved to be the difference in the end as India successfully managed to defend a total of 175 runs and won by 7 runs to lift the elusive trophy.
Panthers beat Dolphins by 50 runs
Shadab Khan-led Panthers thrashed Saud Shakeel’s Dolphins by 50 runs in the game after successfully defending 328 runs. Panthers rode on a brilliant knock of 111 runs from Usman Khan and half-centuries from Haider Ali (63) and Shadab Khan (65) to post a huge total on the board.
In reply, the Dolphins were skittled out for 278 runs. Opener Sahibzada Farhan provided his team with a good start at the top with a solid half-century. However, the rest of the batters in the top order failed to deliver. Qasim Akram’s 65 and Faheem Ashraf’s 41 off 35 balls were not enough as the Dolphins eventually fell short of the target.
