New Delhi: From despair to domination – this is the only thing that hits the mind when we think about Ravichandran Ashwin’s blazing knock at Chepauk on Thursday. It seemed like an inauspicious start to India’s home Test season in Chennai as Bangladesh, unexpectedly, proved too hot for the hosts in the morning but the scene was exactly opposite at sunset as local hero Ashwin converted the inauspicious start to an auspicious one.
With utter determination and a thirst to rescue his team out of danger, the seasoned Indian player stood up and delivered for Team India with a flawless unbeaten century, upholding the spirit and pride of the team. With biggies like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill failing to deliver for the team, Ashwin showcased the courage to speak up loudly and roared at the opponents, leaving them disgruntled.
Ashwin’s love affair with Chepauk
Ravichandran Ashwin continued to be a loyal lover, pursuing his love affair with the Chepauk stadium in an emphatic manner. Ashwin, who got to his sixth Test century, scored his second hundred in Chennai and that too consecutively. The last time the seasoned player played a Test match in Chennai, was back in 2021 against England and he scored a remarkable ton (106) back then. Ashwin came roaring back again in his home ground and smashed a wonderful century under pressure, maintaining a cool and calm attitude.
Positive body language, fearless approach highlights of Ashwin’s knock
While the Indian team was reeling under pressure at 144 for 6, Ashwin stepped up with a positive body language and an intent to save his team and eventually succeeded. Not taking up the traditional approach, which would have been to play cautiously taking baby steps, Ashwin did the opposite by adopting a fearless and dominant approach which shook the Bangladesh bowlers. While the approach, after losing 6 wickets and that too in Test match would have been a bit more slow, the tall Indian player counterattacked the opposition to take his team out of danger.
Ashwin’s intent puts Bangladesh on backfoot
Bangladesh, who were in command for almost two sessions of the first day, were pushed against the wall in the third and final session before the day was called off. The right-handed batter sent a strong message to the bowlers that even after ruling for the majority of day’s play, they cannot continue dictating terms to India especially at home and also communicated vividly that India is not Pakistan.
His flawless knock hit the opposition even more harder as it came at stage when all the big guns had been dispatched to the pavilion and Bangladesh were thinking of wrapping up the innings by cleaning up the leftover but unfortunately for them, the leftover proved too hot for the visitors.
