‘I Have seen him work so hard’: Shubman lauds Rishabh after sensational Test comeback

New Delhi: A brilliant partnership between Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill helped Team India to take a 514-run lead in the second innings of the first Test match against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Gill scored an unbeaten 119 runs off 176 balls with the help of 10 boundaries and 4 maximum. Pant also scored 109 runs off 128 balls, his remarkable knock was laced with 13 boundaries and four maximums.

Both batters stitched a 167-run partnership for the fourth wicket to put India on top heading into Day 4. Bangladesh, in reply, scored 158 runs for the loss of four wickets. Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan stitched a 62-run partnership for the opening wicket but Yashasvi Jaiswal took a stunning catch to dismiss Zakir in Bumrah’s over. Ravichandran Ashwin also took three wickets to leave Bangladesh in a troubling position.

After the match, Shubman Gill praised Rishabh Pant who made his Test comeback after more than 20 months and said that he spent a lot of time with Pant on and off the field. Shubman further added that watching him score his first century after comeback gave him so much pleasure and he has seen him work hard for the comeback.

“I have spent a lot of time with him on and off the field and watching him score his first 50 and first 100 after his comeback gives me so much pleasure. I have seen him work so hard for it when he was coming back from the injury and I think he also must be feeling really good” Gill said in the press conference.

‘I practiced a lot before the series’: Shubman Gill

Gill also revealed his game plan against spinners and said that when he used to practice against spinners, he used to step down to rotate the strike and he did the same on the Chennai pitch.

“Initially when I used to practice, especially against spinners, I used to step down trying to rotate. It’s the same here because it’s hard for bowlers to settle on a wicket like this where the odd one is turning but not all the balls are turning” Gill told reporters in the post-day press meet.

He also said that scoring runs against any opposition gave a lot of confidence to the batter and he practiced a lot before the start of the Bangladesh series.

Shubman Gill praised his teammate Rishabh Pant after he made a brilliant comeback to Test cricket and scored a century against Bangladesh in 1st Test.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
