New Delhi: UFC star Diego Lopes aims to fight for the UFC featherweight title or at least fight against former champion Alexander Volkanvoski. Lopes got the biggest win of his career at the historic UFC event at Spehere. Lopes defeated number 3 ranked Brian Ortega via unanimous decision. He was number 12 ranked before the fight but after the win, Lopes went to no. 5 rank in the featherweight division.
With his only win in the top 5 rankings, Lopes is not interested in fighting against No. 4 rank Movsar Evloev. Evloev is the fighter who has had a devastating defeat to Lopes in recent times. But Lopes was in short-notice decision to fight against Evolev.
Evolev is the undefeated fighter in the UFC, After his debut in UFC, he finished every fighter in the first five fights and then went on to win against Arnold Allen via unanimous decision. Evolev was set to fight against Aljamain Sterling at UFC 307 but Sterling pulled out of the fight due to an injury and the fight was called out by Dana White.
Lopes gave only one condition to fight Evolev if he fight against Evolev and won the fight then he wanted to fight for the title next. The featherweight champion Ilia Topuria is all set to defend his title against Max Holloway at UFC 308.
“If that doesn’t happen, we’d like the possibility of fighting Alexander Volkanovski in December,” Lopes said if Evolev didn’t fight him.
Volkanovski had the great featherweight title reign, he defeated Max Holloway three times, Jose Aldo, Korean Zombie, and many more in his title reign. But after defeating everybody in the division he went to fight for the Lightweight title against Islam Makhachev and lost two fights against him.
But after devastating losses in the lightweight division, he went to his division and lost at his division after five years against current champion Ilia Topuria. Volkanovski now looks to make his return to the octagon.
