New Delhi: The Women in Blue will start their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on October 4. Team India placed in Group A along with defending champions Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
While Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies and Scotland are placed in Group B. Each team will play four matches in the group stage and the top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinal.
After the opening match against New Zealand, Harmanpreet and Co. will take on Pakistan on October 6 and Sri Lanka on October 9 in Dubai. Team India will take on Australia in their last group stage match at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah on October 13.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have already announced the squad for the tournament. Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to lead the side and Smriti Mandhana named as the vice-captain. The tournament was originally scheduled to take place in Bangladesh but was shifted to the UAE due to political tensions in the country. The tournament will start on October 3 and the final will be played in Dubai on October 20.

Australia defeated India Women by 5 runs in the thrilling semi-final in the 2023 T20 World Cup in South Africa. Australia scored 172 runs in the 20 overs after opting to bat first. Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney stitched a 50-run partnership for the first wicket. Radha Yadav provided Team India with the first breakthrough by removing Healy on 25 runs.
Mooney notched up a brilliant half-century for the Aussies but Shikha Pandey dismissed her on 54 runs. Captain Meg Lanning scored an unbeaten 49 runs off 34 balls and Ashleigh Gardner also scored crucial 31 runs off 18 balls.
Chasing the target of 173 runs, The Women in Blue got off to a poor start and lost both openers cheaply. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues stitched a 69-run partnership for the fourth wicket and got the team out of trouble. Darcie Brown removed Rodrigues on 43 runs while Harmanpreet got run out on 52 runs. Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh also contributed to the run chase but failed to take the team over the line.
