New Delhi: Mominul Haque struck a resolute century on the fourth day of the second Test in Kanpur on Monday to become only the second Bangladesh batter to score a Test hundred in India.
After only 35 overs could be played in the first three days at the Green Park stadium due to rain and wet outfield, Haque scored his 13th Test century as Bangladesh reached 205/6 at lunch on the fourth day.
Bangladesh were asked to bat after losing the toss and resumed at 107/3. Left handed Mominul began the day at 40 and completed his ton in 172 balls, reaching triple figures with a sweep shot to the boundary off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
He removed his helmet and bowing and celebrated as joined team-mate Mushfiqur Rahim to be the only two Bangladesh batters to score a Test century in India.
At lunch, Mominul, who hit 16 fours and a six, remained unbeaten on 102 while India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah removed Mushfiqur Rahim on 11.
Rahim left a delivery that came into him and rattle the top of off-stump. Litton Das was the next batter to come in and hit Bumrah for three boundaries in one over.
But his stay was cut short by a sharp catch from India skipper Rohit Sharma with a one-handed grab at mid-off to send dismiss him off Mohammed Siraj for 13.
Former skipper Shakib Al Hasan was the next to depart, as he tried to loft Ashwin out of the ground but was caught by Siraj while running back from mid-off.
India beat Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test in Chennai to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
