New Delhi: After facing flak, the Israeli government has removed a map of India from its official website that inaccurately represented Jammu and Kashmir.
The map was removed after Indian influencer Abhijit Chavda brought attention to the issue on the social media platform X. Chavda, who has nearly two lakh followers, posted: “India stands with Israel. But does Israel stand with India? Note the map of India (pay attention to Jammu & Kashmir) on Israel’s official website.”
‘Thank you for noticing’
Addressing concerns raised by social media users, Israel’s ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, clarified that the error in the map was a result of a “website editor’s mistake.”
“Thank you for noticing. It has been taken down,” he said.
Social Media Influencer Thanks Isareli Government
After the map was removed, Chavda expressed his gratitude to the Israeli government, stating, “Thank you for addressing the issue.”
“Greatly appreciate Government of Israel’s proactive step to remove the incorrect map of India. Demonstrates Israel’s friendship with India, and genuine desire to strengthen the friendship. India stands with Israel,” he wrote.
“Kashmir An Integral Part of India’
For the unversed, India has consistently asserted that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is an essential and inseparable part of the country.
Earlier last week, India responded strongly to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s comments on Kashmir made at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), labeling them as “hypocrisy at its worst.”
Indian diplomat Bhavika Mangalanandan deemed Sharif’s remarks about Kashmir “unacceptable,” asserting that Pakistan would attempt to counter the truth with more lies.
Pakistan has persistently raised the Kashmir issue at various UN forums, despite lacking support for its statements. Nevertheless, India has reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, are, and will always remain, an integral part of the nation.
