New Delhi: The Saint Lucia Kings (SLK) clinched their maiden Caribbean Premier League title with a comfortable six-wicket win over the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) on Monday at the Providence Stadium, Guyana.
After opting to bowl in the summit clash, SLK restricted GAW to 138/8 in 20 overs courtesy of a brilliant bowling display. While all the bowlers chipped in with wickets, Noor Ahmad once again stole the show, picking up 3 wickets for just 19 runs in his 4 overs.
Skipper Faf du Plessis and the in-form batter Johnson Charles, who came into the game with a collective score of 850 runs between them failed to replicate their past heroics and were dismissed early.
The Kings were tottering at 51 for 4 at one point and looked in trouble before Roston Chase (39 runs off 22) and Aaron Jones (48 runs from 31 balls) launched a sensational counter-attack and took the team over the line with 11 balls to spare.
Following the win, St. Lucia skipper Du Plessis hailed his team for a special performance in the final and lauded the players for showing grit and determination throughout the tournament.
Du Plessis’s celebration with the team was extra special. The South African legend imitated Rohit Sharma’s iconic walk celebration with the CPL Trophy to mark the historic occasion.

Rohit has inspired many cricketers since his legendary walk celebration following the T20 World Cup 2024 win in the Caribbean earlier this year. Rohit himself took inspiration from legendary footballer Lionel Messi, who made the celebration famous following Argentina’s FIFA Qatar World Cup win in 2022.
The win for SLK also ended the trophy wait for the Indian Premier League (IPL) Punjab Kings’ co-owners Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia, Mohit Burman and Karan Paul, who are the the owners of St. Lucia franchise in the CPL.
SLK’s Afghan spinner Noor Ahmed was named Player of the Tournament for taking 22 wickets in 12 matches while Roston Chase was adjudged the Player of the Match for his match-winning 39 off 22 balls along with bowling figures of 1 wicket for 13 runs.
