New Delhi: Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur suffered an injury to her neck in the women’s T20 World Cup 2024 clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday. During the fierce battle, Harmanpreet sustained the injury while batting, which forced her to leave the field in tears. The India captain was retired hurt after scoring 29 runs in 24 balls, playing a handful little knock in India’s win over the rivals.

As she did not look good at all after suffering the blow, speculations started to rounds on social media with respect to her participation in the next group game against Sri Lanka. India take on the Lankan side a must-win encounter of the T20 World Cup on Wednesday. Ahead of the all-important clash, Indian opener and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has shed light on the participation of the skipper in India’s third group game.

According to a report in Revsportz, Smriti Mandhana revealed that Harmanpreet Kaur will be available for selection. Mandhana said that the Indian skipper is doing good and she will participate in the game between India and Sri Lanka in Dubai. The vice-captain confirmed this on the eve of the match, which is of utmost importance for India. If India lose their vital clash against the Lankans, they will be virtually out of the showpiece event.

India’s campaign at the marquee event started on a poor note as they suffered a heavy defeat against New Zealand. While their performance along with the chances of knockout qualification were badly hit, the Women in Blue roared back to form and registered a big win against rivals Pakistan, keeping themselves alive in the tournament.

For India to qualify for the semis, they need to win both their upcoming clashes and also, New Zealand needs to beat Australia in their group clash on Tuesday.
