New Delhi: As we head towards the beginning of third matchday of UEFA Nations League, there are teams who are looking to continue their strong start to the campaign, while others will be looking to hit back after their disappointments from the opening two matchdays.
The third matchday will be producing some competitive fixtures with some European heavyweights colliding against each orher. These fanatic fixtures would include the heavyweight clash between Italy and Belgium, while England will be up against Greece.
Moving forward into the third matchday, there were some interesting results in the first and the second matchdays. So here’s a look at how things are shaping before the tournament proceeds further ahead.
League A (Group 1)

The first group of Nations League 2024/25, as it stands, suggests that Portugal are sitting top after their blistering start to the campaign, where they beat Croatia to open their account for the campaign, and in the second matchday they managed to beat Scotland.Second placed Croatia managed to edge past Poland to clinch the second spot before the the third matchday. Portugal will be up against Poland, who currently sit third in the group, while bottom placed Scotland will be facing Croatia in the next round of Nations League.
(Group 2)
Group 2 of League A consists of three European Giants, and it’s Italy who top the group after they defeated France in the opening matchday, while just exging past Israel in the second matchday to maintain their hundred percent record. Meanwhile, France after their shocking loss against Italy, managed to cruise past Belgium yet again to clinch in to the second spot, while the Belgians, despite having a strong start against Israel, slipped to third position after that lost against Les Bleus.
Israel have managed to lose both of their opening games to sit right at the bottom of the group. Up next, it will be an interesting clash between Italy and Belgium, while France meet Israel in the third matchday of Nations League 2024.
(Group 3)
Germany managed to find the best possible start to their Nations League campaign, producing a five star performance against Hungary, beating them 5-0 in the opening matchday of the campaign. However, they only sit at the top due to their goal difference as they managed to draw their second game against the Dutch, which eventually ended 2-2.
Second placed Netherlands also had a positive start to the campaign, beating Bosnia 5-2. Meanwhile, third placed Bosnia managed to draw against rock bottom, Hungary, as both the sides prepare for the third matchday where the Bosnians will face Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany, while the Hungarian will be going head to head against Ronald Koeman’s Dutch side.
(Group 4)
This campaign’s surprise package so far has been the form of the Danish side, who are sitting top of the group 4, where there is no lack of contention with teams like the Euro champions Spain, Switzerland and Serbia, all competing for the top spot.
Denmark got the better of the Swiss side in the opening matchday of the tournament and managed to carry that form against Serbia, to sit comfortably at the very top of the group. Second placed Spain, drew their first game against Serbia and then managed to thrash Switzerland 4-1 in the second matchday. Meanwhile, third placed Serbia and Switzerland need to gear up and make the most out of their matchday three fixtures as the two bottom teams are up against each other while Spain will be playing Denmark.
League B (Group A)

Another big surprise of this campaign has been Georgia’s incredible start to the campaign. Two wins out of two and sitting top of group A of League B is truly an astonishing achievement for the Georgians. They started the campaign off with a 4-1 thrashing of Czech Republic, following it with a 1-0 win against Albania in the second matchday.
Meanwhile, Albania managed to beat Ukraine to clinch the second spot following the third matchday of Nations League. Third placed Czech Republic will be facing Albania while rock bottom Ukraine have a chance to open their points tally against Georgia in the third matchday of UEFA Nations League.
(Group 2)
Greece and England have had the perfect start to their respective campaigns, with two wins out of two. Greece are yet to concede a goal this campaign, as they beat Finland 3-0 in the opening matchday only to follow it up with a 2-0 win against Ireland, to sit at the top of the group. Meanwhile, the Three Lions are also levelled on points with Greece, as they managed to win their opening two games first against Ireland and then against Finland. Both Finland and Ireland need to puck themselves up as the two nations are up against each other in the third matchday, while the group toppers are up against each other.
(Group 3)
Group 3 has witnessed Slovenia sitting at the very top of the group with Norway breathing down their neck at second spot, both with 4 points. Slovenia kicked their campaign off with a 1-1 draw against Austria and followed it up with a victory against bottom side Kazakhstan.
Meanwhile, Norway have managed to clinch the second spot for now with an opening day deadlocked draw against Kazakhstan, and a shock win against Austria in the second matchday. Austria and Kazakhstan will be going head to head against each other in the third matchday, as Slovenia and Norway face off.
(Group 4)
Turkey and Wales are levelled in poi9nts, with the Turkish side hitting the top spot as of now. The two sides met each other in the opening matchday and it ended all square, but both the sides managed to win their second respective games, as Turkey beat Iceland and Wales were victorious against Montenegro. Iceland are currently third and Montenegro are winless, staying rock bottom in the group. Turkey will be playing Montenegro, while Wales will be up against Iceland in the third matchday.
League C (Group 1)

Sweden and Slovakia have had the perfect start to their respective campaigns, as both managed to win their opening two games, with Sweden on top of the group and Slovakia clinching the second spot for now. On the other hand, Azerbaijan and Estonia are both winless for now, and they need to kick their campaign off, as they head towards the third matchday. It will be a top of the group clash between Sweden and Slovakia, while Azerbaijan will be facing Estonia in the next matchday.
(Group 2)
Romania continue to impress as they have carried their form from Euros to kick their campaign off with triumphs in the first two matchdays beating Kosovo and Lithuania. Second placed Kosovo managed to win against Cyprus to hold on to the second spot. Cyprus on third and Lithuania complete the table, as the third matchday would witness Romania play against Cyprus and Kosovo going head to head against Lithuania.
(Group 3)
Belarus are right on top of the third group with four points on the board, followed by Bulgaria on second place, who also have the same number of points. Northern Ireland are also breathing down their necks, as they are third with three points on board while Luxembourg are yet to win a game, sitting rock bottom.
(Group 4)
North Macedonia are surprisingly topping the group with four points, followed by Armenia on second spot, who currently have three points on board. Meanwhile, Latvia and Faroe Islands complete the group, as third placed Latvia face off against North Macedonia while Armenia will be facing Faroe Islands.
League 4 (Group 1 and Group 2)

The fourth league involves two groups, where there are three teams in each of those groups. The first group involves San Marino, Gibarltar and Liechtenstein while the second group includes Moldova, Malta and Andorra. The first group is topped by San Marino, who made history, beating Liechtenstein in the opening matchday of the Nations League. However, with Gibaraltar sitting second, Liechtensteinare the only side that have played two matches in the group so far.
The second group is topped by Moldovo, who won their opening matchday against Malta, who sit second after they managed to win their second game against Andorra, for whom, it was the opening game of the campaign.
