New Delhi: Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan issued a public apology after facing heavy criticism for staying silent during the political tensions in the country. The former captain announced his retirement from Tests last month during the India series and has a dream of playing his last match in front of his home fans.
He received strong support from Bangladesh Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain who is eager to fulfil Shakib’s wish of playing his last match in the country. Bhuyain said that Shakib has contributed a lot to the country and wishes to play his final match in the country.
“Since he wishes to play his final Test match in Bangladesh, I personally hope he gets that opportunity,” Bhuiyan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
Bhuyain also said that they will provide the highest level of security to Bangladesh players and have already committed to ensuring Shakib’s security. The Bangladeshi all-rounder was accused of being involved in a murder case and expressed concern over his security in the country during the second Test against India in Kanpur.
As per the reports, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is trying its best to bring Shakib back for the Test series against South Africa at home. The BCB president who earlier said that the board can’t provide any security to Shakib also changed his stance and has now insisted that they are ready to give security to him.

“For those of you who felt hurt or disappointed by my silence during this critical time, I sincerely apologise acknowledging your feelings. If I were in your position, perhaps I would have felt the same way” Shakib wrote on Facebook.
The former skipper also said that he will soon be playing his final match and want all the fans by his side “I want to bid farewell with all of you standing with me. I hope, and I don’t just hope, I believe that in this final moment, you all will stand with me.
