About Tata Trusts
Tata Trusts, one of the largest enterprises in a country with the world’s second-largest population, is a philanthropic organisation that gives hope for a promising and sustainable future. The organisation symbolises humanitarianism for people nationwide and significantly advances social and economic development.
The journey of Tata Trusts began in 1892 with Jamsetji Tata, the pioneer and founder of the Tata Group. He established the JN Tata Endowment to provide higher education for Indians. Jamsetji, the ‘Father of Indian Industry’, introduced progressive policies for his employees, including the apprentice system, childcare for women mill workers, and free medical assistance. He also implemented benefits such as pension funds, provident funds, maternity allowances, and compensation for work-related accidents, all ahead of their time. Additionally, he pioneered the organised housing system and built the iconic Taj Mahal Hotel.
