Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja named heir to Jamnagar throne

New Delhi: Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja has been named as the heir to the throne by Jam Saheb Shatrusalyasinhji Digvijaysinhji Jadeja. The development was confirmed by Maharaja Jamsaheb of Nawanagar in a statement on the eve of Dussehra.

Jam Saheb in a signed announcement said that he’s happy that his dilemma has come to an end as Ajay Jadeja has agreed to become his inheritor and fulfil his responsibility towards the people of Jamnagar.

“Pandavas completed their 14-year exile on Dussehra and won. I am happy that on this auspicious day my dilemma has come to an end as Ajay Jadeja has agreed to become my inheritor and fulfill his responsibility towards the people of Jamnagar. I thank him from the bottom of my heart” said Jamsaheb in a statement as quoted by Ahmedabad Mirror.

As per the media reports, the royal family of Jamnagar, to which Ajay Jadeja belongs, has a rich history in cricket. India’s prestigious domestic tournaments like Duleep Trophy and Ranji Trophy are named after Ajay Jadeja’s relatives KS Ranjitsinhji and KS Duleepsinhji, respectively. His father was a member of Lok Sabha seat from Jamnagar.

Ajay Jadeja’s cricketing career

Ajay Jadeja is a former Indian cricketer and was a regular player in the team from 1992 to 2000. He played 15 Test matches and 196 ODI matches for the country. Jadeja was recognised as one of the best fielders in the Indian team.

In 15 Test matches, he has scored 576 runs while in 196 ODIs he has scored 5359 runs at an average of 37.48. Jadeja also mentored the Afghanistan cricket team in the 2023 ODI World Cup. His career’s most iconic moment came during the 1996 Cricket World Cup quarter-final where he played a crucial cameo against Pakistan. He smacked 45 runs off just 45 balls, including 40 runs in the last two overs which turned the match in India’s favour.
