New Delhi: A lot of current Premier League managers’ futures are up in the air following a poor start to the season. Manchester United’s Erik Ten Hag has had one of the worst starts to the season in Manchester United’s history and defeats to Liverpool and Tottenham has increased pressure on the Dutchman. Wolves’ Gary O’Neil, Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna and Southampton’s Russell Martin, have all made a winless start to the season.
Newley promoted Southampton currently sit 19th on the Premier League table after a shockingly poor start to the season, They’ve picked up just a single point in the first seven games, losing six of them. The pressure was high on manager Russell Martin given it’s his first season in the league but the proverbial noose around his neck has just tightened following such a poor start.
After the Premier League side succumbed to another defeat at the hands of Arsenal during the on the last matchday, the pressure has increased on the Scotsman. A report from FootballInsider claims that the manager is just ‘three games away’ from the sack if results don’t improve once Premier League action resumes following the International break. The Saints are the lowest scoring side in the league currently and would need to improve on that if Martin has to keep his job.

Once the International break is over, the Saints will take on Leicester City at home on October 19th before travelling to Manchester City on October 26th. The last of these three games is a clash with Everton at St. Mary’s on November 2nd. While the club would’ve always expected a defeat from the trip to Etihad, the games against Leicester City and Everton are being seen as crucial to Martin’s tenure at the club.
If Martin isn’t able to put in convincing performances and win against fellow strugglers Leicester and Everton, then the club could be motivated to make changes and part ways with their current manager. Martin joined the club in 2023 from Championship side Swansea City and produced a fantastic job to get the Saints back in the Premier League at the first time of asking.
However, after a dismal start to the season, the manager is said to be fighting for his job at the club currently. The manager is sticking to his philosophy of playing free-flowing football but it’s not working out well for them in the top-flight. Having scored just three goals, they’re struggling to create and are left exposed at the back and that has left them off the foot of the table by virtue of goal difference.
The current manager of a Premier League club has been given the next three games to turn things around for the club otherwise they would face the sack. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
