Radha Yadav is originally from Ajoshi Village in the Jaunpur district but her family shifted to Mumbai and lived in a 220-square-foot slum in the Kolivery area. She picked up a cricket bat at the age of six and used to play cricket with boys. She was the only girl among them and faced a lot of teasing. But with the family’s support, Radha decided to pursue cricket as a career.
Practiced with a wooden bat
Radha’s father ran a small shop and she was the youngest among four siblings. Due to the challenging financial conditions, Radha couldn’t afford money to buy a cricket bat and used to practice with a home-made wooden cricket bat. Her father used to take her to the stadium in Rajendanagar for practice on a bicycle. Seeing her family’s financial struggle, her coach covered her training fees.
Made her India debut at the age of 17
Radha Yadav made her India debut at the age of 17 during the 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup. After that, she delivered many match-winning performances for the country. She made her ODI debut for India against South Africa on March 14, 2021. Radha took 97 wickets in 81 T20 matches and 4 wickets in five ODI matches.
