In the first-ever climatic phenomenon, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Jawf region on Thursday witnessed snowfall leaving the entire deserted landscape covered with snow. Several videos and photos of this rarest occurrence flooded on social media leaving netizens stunned and excited to see the unexpected snowfall turning sand dunes into snow-covered winterland.
According to the reports, the snowfall, which was followed by a heavy rainfall and hailstorms, left the sand dunes covered with snow turning the golden appearance of Saudi Arabia’s desert to white crystal.
According to the UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), a low-pressure system brewing in the Arabian Sea brought in a wave of moisture-laden air that collided with the desert heat, resulting in thunderstorms and snowfall.
While the snowfall has brought joy and wonder to many, the Saudi Arabian weather department has urged residents to prepare for more thunderstorms, hailstorms, and strong winds in the coming days.
Not only this, the weather forecast department has warned the commutters of reduced visibility on the roads due to the unpredictable weather conditions.
Meanwhile, despite the warnings, the people of Al-Jawf are basking in the rare beauty of the climatic change resulting in the desert snow.
