Begin by boiling chickpeas and removing their skins for a smooth texture.
Add the chickpeas to a blender with a tablespoon of olive oil, blending until smooth.
Next, add two spoons of yoghurt to the mixture for extra creaminess and blend again.
In a separate bowl, combine roasted sesame seeds, a couple of garlic cloves, and a pinch of salt, blending them to make homemade tahini.
Mix the tahini into the chickpea blend, then transfer everything back into the grinder.
Squeeze in the juice of half a lemon, and add a few ice cubes for a creamy consistency.
Once blended, give it a final stir and garnish with a sprinkle of oregano.
With that, a quick, nutritious, and delicious hummus is ready to enjoy!

Alongside her video, Bhagyashree shared a few extra tips in the caption. She wrote, “A protein-packed snack that you can enjoy alone, spread in sandwiches, or use as a dip. It’s super healthy and gives you a boost of energy and taste. Make some and keep it in the fridge for a few days. P.S. Key to creamy hummus: remove the skin from the chickpeas and add ice at the end when blending.”

Benefits of hummus

Bhagyashree’s hummus recipe is an excellent alternative to butter, offering protein and fibre from chickpeas, heart-healthy fats from olive oil, and antioxidants from garlic and lemon. This swap not only enhances flavour but also supports digestion and heart health without the saturated fats found in butter.

Switching to hummus in place of butter, jam, or mayonnaise on bread has plenty of advantages. It increases your intake of protein, fibre, and essential minerals while supporting heart health, aiding digestion, and promoting healthy weight management. Plus, it’s lower in calories, making it a lighter, healthier choice for your meals.
