New Delhi: Abu Dhabi has once again been ranked as the world’s safest city for 2024, according to the Global Liveability Index from the Economist Intelligence Unit and Numbeo’s Global Rankings. This marks the eighth consecutive year, since 2017, that Abu Dhabi has held this prestigious title, reinforcing its status as the most liveable city in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The city has topped the rankings out of 329 global locations, reflecting the UAE’s ongoing commitment to maintaining security and ensuring the well-being of both its residents and visitors.
Abu Dhabi’s low crime rates, effective law enforcement, and overall sense of stability are key factors contributing to its ranking. It scored highest on the safety index with 86.8 points, while registering the lowest crime level at 13.1. In stark contrast, Caracas in Venezuela ranked as the most dangerous city, with a crime index of 82.2 and a safety score of just 17.8.
In addition to its safety, Abu Dhabi is renowned for its outstanding healthcare and education systems, both of which play a significant role in enhancing its liveability. The city boasts one of the world’s best healthcare infrastructures, comprising 3,323 healthcare facilities, including 67 hospitals, 1,068 pharmacies, and 12,922 licensed doctors. The 2023-2024 academic year will see 459 schools in Abu Dhabi, providing a range of private, public, and mixed educational options, ensuring high-quality education for all residents.
While Abu Dhabi continues to lead, other Gulf cities are also improving in terms of safety and liveability. Kuwait City, Doha, and Bahrain are climbing the ranks, with Dubai close behind. Dubai is the second most liveable city in the UAE and ranks sixth globally for safety, underscoring the region’s commitment to providing a secure and stable environment.
In India, New Delhi and Mumbai have been identified as the most dangerous cities for tourists in 2024. The report highlights significant safety and crime challenges in these cities, potentially impacting India’s appeal as a travel destination.
For the eighth consecutive year, Abu Dhabi has been crowned the world’s safest city. With top-notch security, healthcare, and education, the city continues to set the standard for liveability in the MENA region, while other Gulf cities like Dubai and Doha follow closely behind.
