New Delhi: India’s premium pacer Mohammed Shami is back in action after 360 days and picked up 4 wickets in the Ranji Trophy match between Bengal and Madhya Pradesh at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Thursday.
Shami went wicket-less on the first day but took four wickets on Day 2 to help Bengal secure a 61-run lead in the first innings. He removed all-rounder Saransh Jain before dismissing Kumar Kartikeya and Khulwant Khejroliya off consecutive deliveries in his next over.
After taking 4 wickets, Shami posted a video social media platform Instagram and wrote that this is just the start and let’s make this season unforgettable. The star Indian pacer is playing his first Ranji Trophy match for Bengal since 2018.
“Finally The wait is over! After 360 days , I’m back on field , stronger and hungrier. 4 wickets for Bengal in Ranji and this is just the start. Every delivery, every wicket is dedicated to YOU, my incredible fans. Your love fuels my passion! Let’s make this season unforgettable!” Shami wrote on Instagram.
Mohammed Shami could return to Indian team for Border-Gavaskar Trophy
As per the PTI report, Mohammed Shami could join the Indian squad for the Test series against Australia after he made a sensational comeback in the Ranji Trophy match. He last played an international match for India in the 2023 ODI World Cup final in November 2023 after that he underwent ankle surgery and then suffered a knee injury during his recovery. The team management wanted to assess his fitness before including him in the Indian team for the five-match Test series against Australia.
“Obviously, Shami was asked to play this game keeping in mind that the next round of Ranji Trophy will only start on January 23 after the Test season is over. But the biggest test would be whether he again feels any pain after four days. If the NCA medical team green-lights his fitness, obviously he will join before the second Test” BCCI source said.
