New Delhi: Greek police have come under heat after it had been claimed that they used tear gas and riot shields in order to control England supporters during a 3-0 win over Greece in Athens during the ongoing UEFA Nations League. It has been noted that fans were struggling to enter the Olympic Stadium, and the local police had heckled the supporters of Three Lions.
The Football Supporters Association (FSA) have urged fans to share their experience from the event. Post the win over Greece, the Football Association issued a statement where they acknowledged the incident and have said that they are trying to obtain information about the same.

The association has noted that there were many issues that still needed to be addressed in order to ensure the safety of fans. It was noted that around 3,500 English fans went to Greece’s capital city for the 70,000 sold-out fixture. According to some witnesses, police in riot clothes had arrived with shields and batons had ushered the crowd to the stadium, with many failing to get inside the venue before the kick-off.
England’s performance against Greece
England won 3-0 after Ollie Watkins put his side ahead in just seven minutes as Lee Carsley had started Harry Kane on the bench. From there on, Greece never made a comeback and floundered throughout the game as English debutant Curtis Jones stole the show.
Three Lions are now in the top League B’s Group 2. Under Gareth Southgate, the team had been relegated in the last edition. Greece had been the only side in the League B tier that had won all games until matchday four and had even managed to win against England in Wembley. They will now face Finland in Helsinki Olympic stadium.
Police in Athens have been accused of using “heavy hands” against English fans during the UEFA Nations League. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
