‘Comeback King’: Australian media hails Virat Kohli ahead of Border-Gavaskar Trophy

New Delhi: Ahead of the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, Virat Kohli has been ruling the front pages of several leading Aussie dailies. The Team India star has been garnering all the attention from the Australian media before the five-match Test series which is expected to be one of the most important assignments for him in recent times.

Kohli is arguably one of the greatest batters of the present era and remains the poster boy of Indian cricket for many. The veteran batter has not been in the best of forms in Tests this year but has been the most talked-about Indian player in the build-up to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Kohli has already been hailed as the GOAT by the Aussie media and the obsession seems not to be ending anytime soon.

The West Australian newspaper recently had Kohli on their front page and hailed him as the ‘comeback king’ before the start of the 1st Test in Perth which will get underway on Friday, November 22. In an interview with the newspaper, former Australia head coach Justin Langer backed Kohli to bounce back against Australia and be among the runs.

Don’t write off Virat Kohli: Justin Langer warns Australia

Kohli has struggled for consistency in Tests this year but Langer has warned Australia not to write off the modern-day great, who has a terrific record in Tests Down Under. Langer insisted there will be massive pressure on the Indian team after their 3-0 defeat against New Zealand at home in their last Test series but the visitors will be determined to prove their mettle in Australia.

“One thing you never do is write off champions, and that’s in every sport, because they are a champion for a reason. In India, there are one and a half billion cricket-loving people, and then count all the rest around the world, they expect nothing but excellence, and the team will be under intense pressure, so how they fight back will be important,” Langer told The West Australian.

Kohli has managed to score only 250 runs at an average of 22.72 in six Test matches so far this year. However, he will be aiming to get back among the runs and inspire India to their third successive Test series victory in Australia. India scripted history under Kohli’s captaincy when they won their maiden Test series in Australia by clinching the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2017-18.
