New Delhi: Young Indian women batter Shafali Verma has missed out from the national team’s squad for the three-match One-Day International series against Australia next month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad on Tuesday.
Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the 16-member squad, which will see all-rounder Harleen Deol make a return to the squad to potentially play her first match of 2024. The Himachal Pradesh-based player recovered from a knee injury sustained during the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 season in March.
Shafali made 97 runs from four matches at a strike rate of 105.43 in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 last month. The 20-year-old managed scores of 33, 11 and 12 in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand on home soil at the end of the October month.
Tejal Hasabnis and Saima Thakor will get their first overseas assignment after the duo made their international debuts during the New Zealand series in Ahmedabad. Leg-spinner Priya Mishra was included after playing a couple of matches against the White Ferns.

Four of the six players, who are currently playing in Australia in the Women’s Big Bash League, are part of the ODI squad. Senior pacer Shikha Pandey and Dayalan Hemalatha won’t be playing in the Australia series even after featuring for Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers in the franchise-based T20 league.
