New Delhi: At least 20 people have been injured after a vehicle ploughed into a large group of people exercising outside a sports centre in southern China. The incident took place near the Zhuhai Sports Centre in Guangdong province, located close to Macau in southeastern China. Social media footage from the scene showed a number of individuals lying on the ground, with many of the victims seen wearing sports clothing.
Bystanders rushed to assist the injured as emergency medical responders rushed to the scene.
Witnesses took to social media and reported that the majority of those affected appeared to be middle-aged or elderly.
“On the evening of November 11, in Zhuhai, Guangdong, a car hit pedestrians at the Zhuhai Sports Center. Injured people were seen lying on the ground everywhere along the way. The scene was shocking. The vehicle ran away after hitting people”, a user @whyyoutouzhele shared in a post on Twitter.
Doctors were seen providing treatment to the injured at the site. The cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained.
