New Delhi: The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2024 kicked off with a bang, with emotions running high in poddocks and a rather unfortunate start for Red Bull Racing that saw the legendary driver, Sergio Perez taking a nasty bump from Kick Sauber’s Valterri Bottas, that saw him getting disqualified in the opening lap of the race. It certainly was a heartbreaking moment for all the Red Bull fans and the Christian Honer, as Perez’s final race of his career came to an early end. However, Lando Norris made a strong start to the race as he was unaffected by the Melee behind the back seat.
Another clash saw Max Verstappen tripping Oscar Piastri off the track, but he managed to stay there despite playing it dirty and later on, the Dutch was given a 10 second penalty. “Move from a world champion,” was what the Aussie had to say after being tripped on to the side of the track. Meanwhile, it was a rather shaky start for the champion, but soon the skilled driver made his way back into the race coming back into the points.

Pierre Gastly shocked everyone with his start to the race, as this was the first time he was maintaining the top three in a while. However, he couldn’t maintain that position soon the big guns started to fire in with Lando Norris mintaining the lead. Colapinto and and Williams went out early, with Lawson also losing his track from the race. However, Lewis Hamilton ended his legendary stint at Mercedes, with a P4 finish, which was more than decent if you consider it to be his last ever drive for the British automobiles.
This was McLaren’s first win since the 1998 success where David Coulthard and Mika Hakkinen managed to lead their team to glory. Norris was deservedly a part of this historic triumph, where McLaren became the first team to break the decade long rivalry of Red Bull Racing and Mercedes, who have a total of 14 championships in between them since 2010, with Red Bull winning six of them while Mercedes dominating the decade with eight championship wins.
