4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Afghanistan

Kabul: A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan on Friday (August 16) on the Richter scale, according to the National Center for Seismology.

As per the NCS, the tremors were felt at 6:35 am (IST). The epicentre of the earthquake was located at latitude 37.09 North and longitude 71.17 East and at a depth of 130 kilometres.

“EQ of M: 4.8, On: 16/08/2024 06:35:16 IST, Lat: 37.09 N, Long: 71.17 E, Depth: 130 Km, Location: Afghanistan,” National Center for Seismology said in a post on X.

There have been no reports of damage, injuries or casualties so far.

Quake Of 6.3 Magnitude Hits Taiwan:

A 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck 34 km (21 miles) off Taiwan’s eastern city of Hualien on Friday, the island’s weather administration said. However, no immediate reports of damage from the second large quake to hit the island in less than a day.

No injuries or damage from the earthquake were reported as of publication.

Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7, which gauges the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.

The quake’s intensity registered a 4 in Hualien County, Taitung County, Yilan County, Nantou County, Taichung, Chiayi County, Changhua County, and Yunlin County. An intensity level of 3 was recorded in Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Taoyuan, New Taipei, Chiayi, Kaohsiung, Hsinchu, and Tainan.
