5-Year-Old Boy In US Dies After Being Locked In Hot Car For Seven Hours

Nebraska, US: In a tragic incident, a five-year-old boy lost his life after he was locked in a hot car for seven hours.

The incident happened in Omaha, Nebraska where a foster mom left the by in a car outside the beauty salon she is employed in.

According to the police officials, the boy, Dionicio was trapped in 31 degree Celsius heat (89 degree Fahrenheit) for seven hours; his temperature had risen to 105 degrees when he was brought to the hospital where he was declared dead.

This is not the first hot car incident in the country, according to a report by a leading daily, nine such incidents have occurred in the past.

Foster Mom Detained, Charged With Child Abuse By Negligence

Dionicio’s foster mom, 40-year-old Juanita Pinon who is accused of abandoning the boy in a burning SUV, has a criminal history dating back to 2016. 

She also has the joint custody of the boy’s twin sister, who turned five in June. The boy’s biological father and step-mother were told by the government officials that their son was in good care even when they were insisting on his custody.

While it remains unclear if the boy’s death was an accident or a planned action by Pinon, the foster mom has been detained by the police and is being charged with child abuse by negligence which caused the death.

If found guilty, she could go to jail for up to 20 years.
