New Delhi: Australia and India are set to lock horns in a blockbuster five-match Test series in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The much-anticipated series will begin on Friday, November 22 with the first Test to be played in Perth. India’s chances to qualify for the third consecutive WTC Final took a massive blow after the embarrassing 3-0 defeat against New Zealand in the home Test series.
Rohit and Co. need to win at least four Test matches to book a spot in the World Test Championship final. The series is also crucial for the new coach-captain duo of Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma, who will be eager to silence their critics. Meanwhile, Pat Cummins and Co. have lost the last four Border-Gavaskar series, including two at home and they will be hungrier than ever.
‘We have our learnings from New Zealand series but those were different conditions’: Jasprit Bumrah
Team India’s captain Jasprit Bumrah in the pre-match press conference said that the team is not carrying any baggage from the home Test series defeat against New Zealand and they have learned a lesson from that series but those conditions were different and India’s results in Australia have been different. He also said that when a team win a series they start from zero and if a team lose they also start from zero.
“When you win you start from zero but when you lose, then also you also start from zero. We are not carrying any baggage from India. Yes, we have our learnings from New Zealand series but those were different conditions and our results here have been different,” said Bumrah, who is leading in the first Test in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who is on paternity leave.
Bumrah also talked about Virat Kohli and said that he don’t need to give any inputs to the star batter. He also said that the team has finalised its playing XI for the first Test but he will reveal it only at the toss “I don’t need to give Kohli any inputs, made my debut under him. One series can go up and down, but he remains confident. We have finalised our playing XI and you will get to know tomorrow morning before the start of the match” Bumrah added.
