New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag on Friday reacted to son Aaryavir Sehwag’s splendorous knock in the ongoing Cooch Behar Trophy. The youngster from Delhi scored 297 runs against Meghalaya at the MCA Cricket Ground in Shillong.
The 17-year-old smashed 51 boundaries and three sixes in his masterclass innings, striking impressively at 96.12. The knock from the junior Sehwag served as a reminiscence to the ferocious innings played by the former Indian opening batter. Sehwag himself took to his social media accounts to lavish praise on his son’s recent achievement. The Delhi-based cricketer joked about his son missing the Ferrari gift.
“Well played @aaryavirsehwag. Missed a Ferrari by 23 runs. But well done, keep the fire alive and may you score many more daddy hundreds and doubles and triples. Khel jaao..,” Sehwag wrote on his X.

Why Virender Sehwag told Aaryavir that he missed Ferrari by 23 runs?
For the uninitiated, the Ferrari comment was made in the context of his son missing his record in first-class cricket. Sehwag made 319 against South Africa in the first Test in Chennai during the 2008 bilateral series. This was his highest individual score in Test cricket.
After his retirement in October 2015, Sehwag had announced in a BCCI function at the Arun Jaitley Stadium that he would give a Ferrari to any of his sons (Aaryavir and Vedant) if they ever surpassed his 319 best score in the red-ball cricket. Incidentally, Aaryavir missed the mark by 23 runs, but there will be ample of opportunities for the Delhi youngster to shatter the milestone.
In the past Sehwag has opened about not pressurising his kids and said they don’t have to carry the baggage of his sons. He said that they can replicate the style of any players like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli or Hardik Pandya, and there is no compulsion that they should bat like ‘Virender Sehwag’.
