150 years of Tests: Dates revealed for Australia-England’s commemorative one-off Test

New Delhi: With the finalisation of the India Premier League (IPL) windows for the next three seasons, it can be confirmed that Australia and England will play the one-off Test, to commemorate 150 years of Test cricket, in March 2027. The IPL sent an email to all the 10 franchises on Thursday, informing them about the window for the tournament for the upcoming three seasons (2025-27) and also the availability of overseas players each year.

Meanwhile, as per an ESPNcricinfo report, Australia and England will lock horns in the iconic one-off Test that will be played from March 11 to 15 in 2027. The clash was announced by Cricket Australia (CA) earlier this August and will be replicating the Centenary Test of 1977 which Australia bagged by 45 runs. Coincidentally, the winning margin of the game matched that of Australia’s victory in the first-ever Test played in 1877.

These two Tests were held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in 1877 and 1977, and following the tradition, the 2027 Test will also be played at the same venue.

IPL 2027 and Ashes

It is noteworthy that the epic clash will collide with the start of the 2027 season of the IPL as the tournament window is earmarked between March 14 and May 30 that year. The IPL email mentioned that the players from Australia and England would join their teams after the one-off Test.

Before this Test match, the arch-rivals will also partake in the Ashes which starts next year on November 21 in Perth and will conclude with the final Test in Sydney starting on January 4, 2026. The 2027 Ashes will be hosted by England.

The iconic one-off Test will be an exciting opportunity for the players of either side as they will be participating in a game that reminisces the enriching history and rivalry of the two nations over the years. From the viewer’s point of view, the Test will surely be a heavyweight in terms of the teams involved and the tag with which the Test will be played.

The iconic Test match was announced by Cricket Australia (CA) and will be hosted at the Melbourne Cricket Ground where the first Test and the Centenary Test were played.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
