New Delhi: The mega auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is all in readiness to get underway in the Middle East for the second consecutive time. The excitement is at its all-time high as a number of marquee players will be going under the hammer which will ensue a bidding war between the 10 franchises. The teams are prepping for the two big days and are getting ready with their respective plans to fetch big players.
As per the new rules set for the auction, the ten teams were allowed to keep a maximum of six players (with a maximum of five capped and a maximum of two uncapped players). The two sets of marquee players will be up for bidding first followed by the capped and then the uncapped players. After player no. 116 (subject to timings), the auction will enter into the accelerated phase, and will cover all the players from 117 to 574 (total no. of players).
Post this, the franchises will be asked to submit the names of all the unsold players from the full list who will be up for bidding once again in another accelerated round. For IPL 2025, the 10 teams were granted a total purse of Rs. 120 crore and some of that has already been spent on the players that were retained. The maximum size of each franchise’s squad is 25 and the minimum size is 18, making it a total of 250 players (maximum).
Out of these 250 players, 46 players have already been retained by the teams, leaving a maximum of 204 slots to fill during the IPL 2025 mega auction. Also, each team can have a maximum of eight overseas players so there are 70 slots for them at the auction.

This year, the mega auction for the IPL 2025 will be held in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah. The auction will take place on two days – November 24 and 25 and will begin at 1 PM local time, which is 3:30 PM IST on both days.
The auction can be viewed live on the Star Sports Network and those looking for the online streaming can hop on to the JioCinema app and website.
