New Delhi: India bowled out Australia for a minuscule 104 in the first innings to claim a 46-run lead on the second day of the Border Gavaskar Series opener at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah led from the front with figures of 5 for 30 being instrumental in reducing Australia to their third lowest Test total at home since 2000.
Resuming from the overnight score of 67 for 7, the hosts lost wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey early in the day as Bumrah induced his outside edge with a short length delivery moving away from the body with Rishabh Pant left to pick a simple catch. Bumrah completed his 11th Test five-wicket haul, and third in Australia on his third visit.
Debutant Harshit Rana removed Nathan Lyon as Australia lost their ninth down. However, Mitchell Starc (26) and Josh Hazlewood (7) showed resistance, adding 25 runs for the last wicket to help Australia cross the 100-run mark.
