New Delhi: Team India openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul looked on song as they revived India in the ongoing Perth Test with an excellent batting display on Day 2, totally contrary to what the Indian batters were up to in the first innings. Australia were bowled out for a meager 104 early morning as India took a lead of 46 runs and came out to strengthen it. Jaiswal and Rahul read the pitch quite well and played out the whole day, not giving a single wicket to the Aussie bowlers.
India were 150 all-out in the first innings as the Aussie pacers breathed fire on a juicy Perth track but similar was the fate of Australia as stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah bagged a five-wicket haul. Rahul and Jaiswal stitched an unbeaten 172-run stand, facing 346 deliveries and playing out 57 overs before stumps were called and they walked towards the pavillion, putting India and command and getting a lead of 218 runs.

The run-stand for the opening wicket was a first in many aspects as Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 90(193) hitting seven fours and two sixes while Rahul scored 62(153) with the help of just four fours.
What records did Jaiswal and Rahul make?
When their partnership went past 100 runs, it was for the first time since 2004 that Team India openers put up a 100-run stand in Australia. Moreover, it is also the first 150+ opening stand by a visiting team in Australia since 159 by Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook at the MCG in 2010 and also the first outside Ashes Tests since 191 by Sunil Gavaskar and Krishnamachari Srikkanth at the SCG in 1986.
Stat Alert 🚨
Since 2004, this is the first time that #TeamIndia openers have put up a 100-run stand in Australia.

Another great stat is that the last time an Indian pair before Jaiswal and Rahul to bat out two successive sessions in a SENA Test were Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli at the MCG in 2018.
Visiting opening pairs surviving 50+ overs in Australia since 2000
53.3 – Sherwin Campbell & Wavell Hinds, Sydney 2001
66.2 – Andrew Strauss & Alastair Cook, Brisbane 2010
51.1 – Andrew Strauss & Alastair Cook, Melbourne 2010
50.0 – Yashasvi Jaiswal & KL Rahul, Perth 2024
Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul displayed tremendous batting skills on Day 2 during Team India’s second innings in the opening Test in Perth. The opening batters partnered for 172 runs and will continue to bat on Sunday. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
