Tottenham Hotspur boss Agne Postecoglou admits their need to turn around fortunes before Christmas

New Delhi: Ange Postecoglou is all set to lead Tottenham Hotspur in his 50th Premier League game as in charge of the side. However, there are reservations as to how much the 59-year-old has improved the side’s performance. As they come to face reigning champions Manchester City, Tottenham are placed tenth, and a loss will only add fuel to the questions regarding Postecoglou.

During his first season at the helm of Tottenham, the side finished fifth, improving from their previous season’s eighth finish. This season Tottenham have been inconsistent with five wins and five losses. Before the international break, they handed Ipswich Town their first victory of the season, losing 2-1 at home.

Ahead of their clash with City, Postecoglou has said that it was still early to judge his side’s progress this season. However, he admitted that he faces a big test as his side plays nine games in the next 29 days. He noted that his side needed to turn things around and move above their current 10th ranking on the points table before Christmas.

He believes that the side has the potential to achieve the desired result. He noted that their loss against Ipswich cost them third place before the international break. Still, he felt that the team and his progress shouldn’t be judged by their performance.

🚨⚪️ Postecoglou: “Inconsistency this season is down to me. That’s my responsibility”.

“The inconsistency we’re having this year, ultimately it comes down to me and my approach”.

Before the break, Postecoglou had admitted that the side had been inconsistent, and this was down to him. Speaking before their game against City, he noted that if they were still tenth at Christmas, there will be “scrutiny” on his tactics. Postecoglou had assumed the role as Tottenham’s manager when the side was in need of major rebuilding.

How has Tottenham’s season looked so far?

This season, they have played brilliantly against big teams, winning against both Aston Villa and Manchester United. They even won against City in the Carabao Cup to qualify into the last eight of the tournament. It is the losses against small teams including Crystal Palace and Ipswich which have made critics call the side Robinhood, for snatching points from the big teams and giving them away to the smaller teams.

Part of the reason many believe is Postecoglou’s refusal to alter his attacking tactics. The former Celtic coach has himself admitted he has been stubborn on some aspects of the game and has in previous instances wanted to be more adaptive. When asked to evaluate himself, Postecoglou has said that while things are not looking great in current scenario, there are aspects of their performance they can be proud of.

He hopes that he can develop the team into a side they can be proud of. He concluded that he hopes that the next 50 games are better and put them in a good space. They will now face a City that has lost four games in a row across competition and are looking for redemption.

Despite an inconsistent season, Tottenham Hotspur boss Agne Postecoglou believes the side has improved over the course of his tenure.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
