Yashasvi Jaiswal has cricketing world at his feet, says legendary cricketer

New Delhi: Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was left impressed with young gun Yashasvi Jaiswal’s batting skills on the second day of the first Test match against Australia in Perth. Gavaskar said that the prolific Indian batter has the entire cricketing world at his feet as he tends to bring a varied perspective to the opener’s role by playing his shots instead of being more careful and go by the books.

The young sensation ended the second day on a score of 90 runs, along with KL Rahul, who was also batting at the crease on 62 when stumps were called by the umpires. The Indian openers frustrated the Aussies players with an unbroken 172-run stand for the opening wicket to hand India a strong 218-run lead.

Jaiswal has cricketing world at his feet: Gavaskar

Gavaskar, who himself was a terrific opener during his playing days, said the the boy is really special and the way he’s batting is absolutely commendable. It is sometimes easy to handle the fame but he’s doing everything with perfection, the former Indian cricketer said at the end of day’s play. Gavaskar further said that he is still hungry for runs even after scoring more than 700 runs in five Test matches against England earlier in the year.

Jaiswal impressed everyone after smashing two double hundreds in the Test series against England earlier in 2024. Meanwhile, the batter would be focussed on getting to score of at least 150 or 200 on the third day and that’s what Indian cricket needs at the moment. Gavaskar further said the left-handed batter can create problems for big teams like Australia and England with his penchant for playing shots.

“A left-hander who at the top of the order can create problems for the bowlers, whether they’re Australian, English, whatever, because he brings a completely different perspective,” said the former captain.
