New Delhi: After the cash-rich Indian Premier League announced the player retention a week back, the Women’s Premier League teams also finalised their list of retained and released players ahead of the 2025 season on November 7, Thursday. According to the rules set by the WPL, all the franchises have the option of retaining all the 18 players, including 6 overseas stars.
Out of the total five franchises, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) did not have any shocking inclusions or exclusions as both the side retained their core group ahead of the third season of the WPL. The first season, in 2023, was won by Mumbai Indian while the RCB team bagged the second season in 2024.
Players retained at mammoth price
Smriti Mandhana
Talking about the defending champions at first, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have retained their skipper and star batter Smriti Mandhana for a whopping price of Rs. 3.4 crore. Apart from their costliest retained player Mandhana, the franchise also retained Kate Cross for Rs 1.9 crore.
Natalie Sciver-Brunt
English cricketer Natalie Sciver-Brunt happens to be the costliest retention of the Mumbai Indians franchise. The star player was retained for a massive Rs 3.2 crore. They have also retained the services of Harmanpreet Kaur for Rs 1.8 crore.
Ashleigh Gardner
The top pick for the Gujarat Giants team has been Australian star Ashleigh Gardner, who has been retained by the franchise for a hefty price of Rs 3.2 crore. Apart from her, Beth Mooney has also been retained for Rs 2 crore.
Deepti Sharma
UP Warriorz have retained star Indian player Deepti Sharma for a mammoth amount of Rs 2.6 crore. The franchise has also spent Rs 1.8 crore on Sophie Ecclestone.
Jemimah Rodrigues
Delhi Capitals, who reached the final of the both the previous editions, have show faith in Rodrigues retaining her for a massive price of Rs 2.2 crore. The franchise has also held on to Marizanne Kapp for Rs 1.5 crore.
