Max Verstappen clinches fourth F1 World Championship title at Las Vegas Grand Prix

New Delhi: Max Verstappen, on Sunday, became the sixth man in the history of formula one to bag four world championship titles as he edged past Lando Norris with a fifth-placed finish to secure the world title at the Las Vegas Grand Prix. With this sensational victory, Verstappen has joined the likes of multiple champions likes Juan Manuel Fangio (five titles), Alain Prost (four), Michael Schumacher (seven), Sebastian Vettel (four) and Lewis Hamilton (seven).

The Dutch driver only needed to finish ahead of the Norris to give Red Bull a 4th straight driver championship. The Red Bull driver began fifth but by the 10th lap around the street circuit, includes the famed Las Vegas Strip on Saturday night, he was already up to second. Norris who had to score at least three more points to the Dutch racer to extend the championship fight, ended up at the sixth place. Verstappen needed only to finish higher than Norris to win the title, which he did with two races remaining on the season.

Christian Horner praises Verstappen

After claiming a sensational victory, team principal Christian Horner praised the racer, showering love on him becoming a four-time world champion. On the radio, Horner was heard calling the victory a phenomenal achievement.  “That is a phenomenal, phenomenal achievement. You can be incredibly proud of yourself as we are,” said Horner.

Meanwhile, the Dutch driver who seemed in a fine form to compete for the pole earlier in the race, was overtaken by the likes of both Mercedes drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, who secured a 1-2 finish for their team. Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc of Ferrari then added to his misery, overtaking the Dutchman to secure the 3-4 finish.
