New Delhi: Former UFC champion and lightweight champion Islam Makhachev’s coach Khabib Nurmagomedov empathized with the Armenian fighter after pulling out from the main event of UFC 311. Arman Tsarukyan halted one of the biggest lightweight fights in UFC history by pulling out from the fight due to a back injury.
Arman wasn’t present in the weigh-ins just a few hours before the event and after Islam made the weigh-ins, Tsarukyan notified UFC that he was suffering from a back injury and would not compete in the event.
After the departure of Tsarukyan from the main event, Makhachev’s coach Khabib sent a heartfelt message to Tsarukyan. Khabib compared his own situation when he came back from surgery but suffered an injury and pulled out from his fight in March 2017.
“It was the same with me. I just want to wish him all the best. He’s young, and tough, he can come back. He’ll have to survive this situation and come back.” Khabib said.
The last-minute change in the UFC 311 main event will harm the event as the Arman vs Islam rematch was considered one of the best lightweight division bouts in UFC history.
Renato Moicano was announced as the replacement for Arman and will share the octagon with the lightweight champion. Khabib also advised Islam not to underestimate Moicano as he is also coming from a four-fight win streak.
Moicano will be eyeing to upset the world by beating the number one pound-for-pound champion. Moicano has a experience of 11 years in the UFC and now he is in his prime and destiny gives him a lifetime opportunity to cash in on his career.
