Preview and predicted lineups of Premier League ‘Match Day 12’ remaining fixtures

New Delhi: Matchday 12 resumed action in the Premier League after a long international break on Saturday. Chelsea opened the weekend action with a 2-1 win over Leicester City and are now placed third in the points table. A five-match game saw goal-fest games as Wolverhampton Wanderers won 4-1 against Fulham, while Arsenal too displayed notable performance with a 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest.

Brighton and Hove Albion continued to impress with a 2-1 win over Bournemouth, with Aston Villa settling for a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace. The final game of Saturday saw Manchester City lose their third game in a row in the Premier League. As the action continues, here’s a preview of the remaining fixtures on gameweek 12.

The table’s lowest-ranked team will face the table toppers as Southampton host Liverpool at St Mary’s Stadium. A 1-0 win over Everton on matchday 10 gave Southampton their first victory of the season but lost 2-0 to Wolves before the international break. The loss pushed them to the bottom of the league standings. The Saints’ wins over Stoke City and Everton, as well as scoring in the last four outings at St Mary’s, give them hope to perform well against Liverpool.

Liverpool are in fantastic form, having won nine times and lost only once from their 11 games this season. Arne Slot has now won 15 games out of 17 as in charge of the Reds and is set to become the team’s first manager to win 10 Premier League games in just 12 matches. Currently, they are leading the Premier League table, five points ahead of the reigning champions Manchester City with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa. However, they have won only once in their last eight games against Southampton, and that is a stat they hope will improve this weekend.

Southampton: McCarthy; Walker-Peters, Sugawara, Stephens, Harwood-Bellis, Manning; Armstrong, Downes, Aribo, Fernandes; Archer

Liverpool: Kelleher; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Jones, Gakpo; Nunez

Prediction: Southampton 0-2 Liverpool

It is one of the most highly anticipated games of the season by the sheer circumstances before the match as Ipswich Town host Manchester United at Portman Road Stadium. Ipswich Town won their first game of the season last game week when they 2-1 against Tottenham. The win has placed them in a comparatively safer zone as they start the weekend at 17th. They are currently the only team this season without a home victory.

This is an important game for Man United fans as they hope that Ruben Amorim can continue the work that Ruud van Nistelrooy left the side with. Taking over as an interim manager at the Old Trafford, Nistelrooy oversaw three wins and one draw. Amorim’s previous team, Sporting CP, gave Man City a 4-0 drubbing and that has only done well for his reputation as he takes charge of the Red Devils this weekend. A 3-0 win over Leicester City ensured they were placed 13th before the break. At Portman Road stadium, United will be searching for their second away victory of the season.

Ipswich Town: Muric; Tuanzebe, O’Shea, Burgess, Davis; Morsy, Cajuste; Johnson, Hutchinson, Szmodics; Delap

Manchester United: Onana; De Ligt, Casemiro, Evans; Dalot, Ugarte, Mainoo, Mazraoui; Fernandes, Hojlund, Garnacho

Prediction: Ipswich Town 1-2 Manchester United

Newcastle have been on a decent touch this season, with back-to-back wins in the Premier League against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest. They even won 2-0 against Chelsea in the EFL Cup and have now qualified for the tournament’s quarter-finals. They have been a fearless unit as they start their game in ninth place in the points table, having collected 18 points from 11 games and are just four points away from climbing into third place. Across the tournament, they have only lost one out of 15 games at home, which offers them a better chance at St James Park than visitors.

After winning against Manchester United, West Ham failed to score a goal in their last two Premier League outings, with Nottingham Forest handing them a 3-0 defeat. A goalless draw against Everton made critics say that the Hammers lost two points due to poor finishing. They have been a brilliant side at home, resulting in them staying in the 14th place. As they take the field on Monday afternoon, they will be aware that they have won only one away game in their last eight Premier League games, with the win coming against Palace.

Newcastle United: Pope; Livramento, Schar, Kelly, Hall; Willock, Guimaraes, Longstaff; Gordon, Isak, Joelinton

West Ham United: Fabianski; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Emerson; Alvarez; Bowen, Paqueta, Soucek, Summerville; Antonio

Prediction: Newcastle 2-1 West Ham
