Vinod Kambli’s struggles make PV Sindhu emotional; shuttler says ‘take care of money’

New Delhi: Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu recently revealed she got a little emotional after witnessing former India cricketer Vinod Kambli’s struggles. A clip of Kambli had gone viral recently where the former cricketer was seen holding the hands of his childhood friend and ex-teammate Sachin Tendulkar while refusing to let him go.

Kambli and Tendulkar reunited at the memorial event for their childhood coach, Ramakant Achrekar in December last year. In the video, Kambli looked in a frail state, struggling to even stand up, sparking concerns regarding his health. Days later the former batter was admitted to a private hospital in Thane after his health condition deteriorated.

Sindhu came up with some crucial advice for fellow athletes on how to manage money as she opened up about witnessing Kambli’s struggles. The double Olympic medallist, who is arguably India’s most successful shuttler of all time, said athletes need to take care of their finances while they are earning and ensure they are not spending unnecessarily which can lead to financial difficulties once they retire.

“I did see Vinod Kambli’s video. It is important that you manage very smartly. You have to invest in a way that is also useful to you in the future. That’s why I say that you have to invest and take care of your money and not spend lavishly,” Sindhu was quoted as saying by NDTV.

“You have to invest carefully. When you are a top athlete, you get amounts from people who support you. You have to be very careful. You need to pay your taxes. It is important. If you don’t, you are in trouble. I am managed by my parents. My husband takes care of my investments. Till now, I haven’t had any financial struggles, and I am grateful for that,” she added.

Sindhu admitted Kambli’s viral video of him struggling during his reunion with Sachin made her emotional but she insisted athletes should try to be careful with their finances and should keep the right people around who can guide them.

“Yes, a little. But it happens in life. You have to be careful. You have to take things carefully. You need to have people who can guide you in the right way,” said the ace Indian shuttler.
