New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) shattered all records as they broke the bank to buy Team India wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant for a whopping Rs 27 crore at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Pant became the most expensive player in the history of the tournament after joining LSG for their record bid.
Pant surpassed his India teammate Shreyas Iyer, who was signed for Rs 26.75 crore by Punjab Kings on the same day at the IPL 2025 mega auction. The intent was clear from LSG as they went all out to secure Pant having let go of KL Rahul, who led the franchise for three seasons from IPL 2022 to 2024. It turned out to be a direct swap in the end, as Rahul interestingly headed to Delhi Capitals at the auction.
After going all out to secure the big signing of Pant, Delhi Capitals managed to buy South Africa batter David Miller for Rs 7.50 crore to further bolster their batting strength. LSG also managed to get Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh at a decent price of Rs 3.40 crore to replace Marcus Stoinis, who was released by the franchise ahead of the auction.
LSG spend heavily on Indian pacers
Despite having retained Mayank Yadav and uncapped left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan, Lucknow Super Giants spent heavily on Indian fast bowlers at the IPL 2025 mega auction. They bought Indian pacer Avesh Khan for Rs 9.75 crore before adding Akash Deep in their pace attack for Rs 8 crore on Day 2 of the auction.
LSG also bought the likes of left-arm pacer Akash Singh and Rajvardhan Hangargekar as backups.
LSG buy Abdul Samad and Shahbaz Ahmed
Lucknow Super Giants had the likes of Krunal Pandya, Deepak Hooda and K Gowtham in their Indian all-rounders department in the previous seasons. However, they let all of them go and replaced them with the duo of Shahbaz Ahmed and Abdul Samad. Both Shahbaz and Samad were part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024.
