New Delhi: Star Australia cricketer Glenn Maxwell recently dissected the batting of India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, being in awe of his ability to adapt to various conditions and minimal weaknesses. He showed faith in the batter, claiming that the southpaw could score over 40 Test centuries and could tumble multiple records. Jaiswal is hailed as one of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket.
His Test career was off to a dazzling start as he cemented his spot in the senior Indian team with a stunning performance against England this year. “He’s (Jaiswal) a guy that will probably get more than 40 Test hundreds, and write some different records. He’s got a great ability to adapt to different conditions,” Maxwell spoke on The Grade Cricketer podcast.
The 22-year-old played his first Test Down Under and left an indelible mark with a remarkable 161 in the second innings as India clinically defeated Australia to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match BGT series. His Perth knock was his fourth century in only 15 Test matches. It is noteworthy that the southpaw has converted each of those tons into a score of 150+. Jaiswal has so far amassed 1568 runs at an impressive average of 58.07
It was pure class as he bounced back from a first-innings duck in Perth which showcased his resilience to perform for the nation. “He played a lot of shots that will be on highlights packages, but the stuff he did in between… the balls he left, the balls he got in behind… his footwork is pretty crisp, doesn’t seem to have many weaknesses. Plays the short ball well, drives well, plays spin unbelievably well and can absorb pressure for periods of time.”
“It’s going to be scary if Australia can’t find a way to stop him over the next few games,” Maxwell added.
Maxwell on Bumrah’s excellence
Maxwell didn’t leave out India’s stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah who led the team to their most dominant win on Australian soil that too in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma. Bumrah reinforced his status as the best pacer in the world with a remarkable performance. Bumrah bagged a match haul of 8/72 in the Perth Test and Maxwell believes the right-arm quick could go down as “the best fast bowler of all time.”
Calling Jaiswal and Bumrah ” genuine generational talents” for India, Maxwell reasoned why Bumrah is class apart. “I have said this before Bumrah is going to go down as potentially the best fast bowler of all time. Maybe not with the amount of wickets he takes in every format but for the guys that have played against him it is just so difficult.
He called his bowling action unique and praised his ability to move the ball, beating the batters on the outside edge, inside edge, and his slower deliveries, making him a “complete package”.
