New Delhi: Team India all-rounder Hardik Pandya continued his sensational form with the bat in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 as he took new Chennai Super Kings (CSK) recruit Gurjapneet Singh to the cleaners in Baroda’s clash against Tamil Nadu in Indore on Wednesday. Hardik unleashed beast mode against left-arm pacer Gurjapneet as he smashed 29 runs in a single over against him in the game.

Hardik played a swashbuckling knock of 69 runs off just 30 balls laced with 4 fours and an impressive seven sixes to help Baroda chase down a huge target of 222 runs and clinch a thrilling 3-wicket victory in the match. It was Hardik’s second half-century in just three matches in the premier domestic T20 tournament this season.

Hardik came out to bat at No. 6 when Baroda were in a precarious position at 121/4 in the 13th over of their run-chase. The Team India star took little time to launch a fearsome counter-attack against the Tamil Nadu bowlers as he went on to play a game-changing knock to help his side win the game. Hardik went all guns blazing against left-arm pacer Gurjpaneet in the 17th over of Baroda’s chase.

He started with a huge six towards long-on before smashing two more sixes in a row to make it a hat-trick of maximums. Gurjapneet then bowled a no-ball under pressure and was smashed for another six on the free-hit delivery. Pandya ended the over with a boundary and a single to get as many as 29 runs off it, in what was a sensational display of power-hitting.

Gurjapneet, who represents Tamil Nadu in the domestic circuit, was bought by CSK for Rs 2.20 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. The left-arm pacer has been part of the CSK setup as a net bowler before and the team management showed faith in him at the auction. However, his poor show against Baroda wouldn’t have gone down well amongst CSK fans as the left-arm pacer ended up conceding 44 runs in his 3 overs in the game while remaining wicket-less.

Baroda beat Tamil Nadu in last-ball thriller

It turned out to be a last-ball thriller as Athith Seth managed to get a boundary on the final ball of the 20th over with 4 runs to take Baroda over the line against Tamil Nadu. While Hardik top-scored for Baroda with his fiery 30-ball 69, he was well supported by Baroda’s no.4 Bhanu Pania, who scored a quickfire 42 off 20 balls.

Earlier, Tamil Nadu produced a dominant batting display to post a big total of 221 runs on the board, batting first in the game. Senior batter N Jagadeesan slammed a half-century while Vijay Shankar scored a quickfire 42 off 22 balls, including three sixes in an over against Pandya to power Tamil Nadu to a huge score on the board.
