New Delhi: The Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction for the third season will be held on December 15 with Bengaluru decided as the venue for the event. As media reports suggests, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed all five teams about the venue and the date.
The purse value of each team has increased up to INR 15 crore from the INR 13.50 crore last year. Only 19 slots can be availed by all five teams, including 14 Indians and five overseas players.
On November 7, the official website of WPL announced the choice of retentions for all five teams. A total of 71 players, including 25 overseas players, were retained by all the teams during the WPL retention window. UP Warriorz retained the maximum number of players (15) while the remaining four teams made 14 retentions each.
A collective sum of INR 58.30 crore was spent by all the teams and INR 16.7 purse is left for all the teams. Despite retaining the most players, UP Warriorz has the most salary cap left with INR 3.9 crore in store.
Who are the players to watch out for in WPL Auction 2025
England women’s team captain Heather Knight will be among the top attractions at the WPL 2025 auction. She played eight matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the inaugural season of WPL. She pulled out from the WPL 2024 season owing to international duty.
Senior New Zealand pacer Lea Tahuhu, who was the part of the White Ferns’ T20 World Cup-winning campaign, is also likely to attract big bids in the auction with the aim to make a WPL debut. West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin will also be notable presence among overseas player in the mini-auction.
Indian all-rounder Sneh Rana will be the prominent star from the country after she was released from Gujarat Giants. Out-of-reckoning Indian players Poonam Yadav and Veda Krishnamurthy will hope to get suitable picks to continue their WPL campaigns.
